Atonement: Trailer/Poster Analysis

    Atonement:

1. The title of the film is placed at the end of the trailer, it's placed on a black-neutral background, it creates emphasis on the title and impacts the viewer (as it stands out).

2. The names of the actors and actresses are near the end of the trailer too, they are done same as the title, both being placed on a black-neutral background to add emphasis and to point out which well-known actor/actress is part of the film, it makes their name stand out to the viewer, and makes them become more recognizable.

3. The action we are shown is relatable to the main genres of the film both war and romance. It shows guns, explosions and (mild) fighting. It adds an atmosphere to the film and points out the plot lines, it attracts people who like films like this, but it will attract mostly females because of the romance story-line.

4. The music of the trailer is calm at first and rises to climaxes, it adds power to the story and creates a strong bold message on all the clips used in the trailer. It creates a dynamic effect on the film, it shows the purpose of the film and shows the shock and emotions running through the film, it makes us feel involved (even though it's just a trailer).

5. There is no voice-over used in the trailer, it is left to the clips to do the talking and send the message to the viewers. It makes each clip used more powerful and dynamic, it intrigues us because the only thing we can hear, as viewers, is the music and the dialogue of the characters. The dialogue also sends a powerful message and they give hints to what the film is about.

6. The pace of the trailer is slow and it uses the fade in-out editing technique, it brings out the emotions, the characters in the film, out and viewers can respond to it. It makes the violence and action stand-out, but creates an emphasis on them, it upsets us and intrigues us, as we want to find out what is happening between the two main characters of the film, as their story is being put across to us.

7. The last frames of the trailer show the release date of the film, but it uses the phrase 'coming soon', using this makes us interested, because if were intrigued and interested in the film we want to find out more like the release date and more information about cast and crew etc. It can make the film more re-searchable and boost up the popularity and buzz.

8. When looking at both the Theatrical trailer and Promotional poster, i would say (in my opinion) the Promotional poster is more powerful, the reason why i am saying this is because it shows the two main characters, different surroundings (which establishes the journey both characters are going to take during the film), it also includes another character, she too can be important to the plot of the film, everything placed on the trailer is relevant to the main key points. It makes me more interested in watching the film, because the poster sells it to me and helps me understand the contrasts.
